Evani Lupikek, Essex Art Association Artist of the Month

The atmospheric effects of light emanating from Evani Lupinek's "View to the Sound" garnered the artist Best in Show for EAA's first exhibit of 2021, "Emerging."  The pastoral landscape is abstract, but also traditional in the sense that the ethereal light and linear design harkens back to techniques of seventeenth century Dutch painters.  It's no coincidence, Evani is a native of the Netherlands.  However, she has lived  in Australia and California before settling in New England, and has incorporated influences and images from all of these locations into her work.  Evani has a home studio, but enjoys painting en plein air on the Connecticut shoreline, often with other artists nearby.  EAA juror Helen Cantrell described Evani's work as "sophisticated" and "reminiscent of famed Long Island Painter Jane Freihlicher."
